TikTok continues to enjoy its tremendous run in the social media space. Although TikTok receives frequent updates to fix annoying bugs, the app experience still leaves much to desire. TikTok not loading videos on mobile data or showing ‘no internet connection’ can confuse you. You can try switching to Wi-Fi, but it may not be available at all the places. Let’s troubleshoot the TikTok issue.

1. Check Mobile Data Permission

If you have denied mobile data permission to TikTok, the app won’t work when a Wi-Fi connection is unavailable. You should enable mobile data permission from Settings. Here’s how.

iPhone

Step 1: Open Settings on iPhone.

Step 2: Scroll to TikTok. Enable the Mobile Data permission toggle.

Android

Step 1: Long-press on the TikTok app icon and open the app info menu.

Step 2: Select Mobile data and Wi-Fi. Enable the Background data toggle.

It allows the usage of mobile data in the background.

2. Disable TikTok’s Data Saver Mode

TikTok has a data saver mode to apply some brakes to internet data usage. It can be the main culprit. It reduces your data consumption when using cellular data. Videos may load at a lower resolution or take longer.

You need to disable data saver mode in TikTok.

Step 1: Open TikTok and go to your profile.

Step 2: Tap the hamburger menu at the top and open Settings and privacy.

Step 3: Scroll to Data Saver. Disable the option from the following menu.

3. Disable System-Wide Data Saver Mode

A system-wide data saver mode can be why TikTok keeps saying no internet connection. It’s time to turn off data saver mode.

iPhone

Step 1: Launch the Settings app on your iPhone and open Mobile Services.

Step 2: Select your primary SIM. Disable the Low Data Mode from the following menu.

Android

Step 1: Head to Settings on your Android phone.

Step 2: Select Network and internet. Tap Data Saver.

Step 3: Disable the ‘Use Data Saver’ toggle.

4. Check Carrier Outage

If your local carrier faces an outage, you can’t load TikTok, WhatsApp, Facebook, and other apps over mobile data. You can ask your friend or family member, on the same carrier to confirm the issue.

You can also head to Downdetector and search for your mobile network provider. If you notice high outage graphs and user comments complaining about the same, wait for your carrier to resolve the problem. If you frequently face the same, switch to another reliable carrier.

5. Check TikTok Servers

The TikTok servers can also go down due to glitches. In that case, you can’t access TikTok over Wi-Fi or mobile data. You can visit Downdetector and search for TikTok to confirm the same.

6. Connect to Wi-Fi

Does TikTok still show ‘no internet connection’ error? You need to disable mobile data and connect to a robust Wi-Fi network. TikTok should work as expected.

7. Use a VPN Connection

TikTok hasn’t had good relations with many governments and authorities. As a result, TikTok is banned in several regions worldwide. You should first check with your local government to confirm the same. It’s one of the reasons why TikTok is showing ‘no internet connection’ even when connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data. In that case, you have no option but to use a VPN network.

An active VPN connection modifies the IP address on your phone. You can connect to another region server where TikTok is still accessible and try again.
