How to Fix Links Not Opening or Working in X (Twitter) App

Quick Tips
  • Copy the link address from the X app. Open any browser in incognito mode and try opening the link.
  • Open the Settings app on Android and tap on Apps > X > Storage > Clear cache. iPhone users can offload the X app.
  • Go to X app settings > Your account > Account information > Log out. Log back in again and check.

Basic Fixes:

  • Restart your device: Restarting your smartphone helps close and restart the app process from scratch. This can help fix errant glitches like X (Twitter) links not opening or working in the app.
  • Reload the page: Reloading the page helps fix errors by refreshing the page information. So, if your links are not working on X (Twitter), reloading the page might do the trick.
  • Disable VPN services: VPN helps unlock content that might otherwise be geo-restricted in your region. However, this might reduce data speeds, causing issues like X links not opening in the app. To fix this, go to your VPN app and tap on Disconnect.
  • Check for app updates: Updates help ensure your app receives the latest security patches and bug fixes. So, if the X app is out of date, it might encounter problems like links not opening. When this happens, install the app updates and check again.

Fix 1: Use In-App Browser

Instead of choosing other browsers to open links, try opening the link within the X app itself. To do that, tap on the relevant link in the X app and wait for it to open in the in-app browser.

Surfing in incognito mode allows you to browse without storing your browser’s cookies and cache, enabling the browser to load a fresh page copy. This can help fix issues like links not working on the X app, especially if you can’t use the in-app browser. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Open the X app and go to the relevant tweet. Tap on the link you want to open.

Step 2: Then, tap on the menu icon at the top right corner. Tap on Copy link.

Note: If this is unavailable, long-press the link and copy it to the clipboard instead.

Step 3: Open your browser in incognito mode. Long-press the browser search bar and tap on Paste & Go.

Fix 3: Clear X App Cache

App caches contain temporary data used to ensure their smooth running. However, if this cache gets corrupted, it can cause the app to glitch. So, if you can’t open links from the X app, clearing the app cache can help fix it. Here’s how to do it on your Android device.

Tip: iPhone users can offload the X app to do the same.

Step 1: Open Settings and tap on Apps. Scroll down and tap on X.

Step 2: Here, tap on Storage > Clear cache.

Fix 4: Sign Out and Sign in to X

If you still can’t open the links in the X (Twitter) app, signing out and signing back into the app might help. This will refresh your account information and fix any other app-related errors as well. Follow the below steps to do it.

Step 1: Open X > tap on your profile icon > tap on Settings and Support.

Step 2: Once the options expand, tap on Settings and privacy.

Step 3: Here, tap on Your account > Account information.

Step 4: Tap on Log out and confirm the action, if prompted.

You will now be logged out of your X account. Then, close and reopen the X app and log in to your account. Try opening a link to see if the issue has been fixed.
