Fix 1: Delete the Web Data File
Such errors in Microsoft Edge can also occur if the “Web Data” file stored on your PC becomes corrupted. You can try getting rid of the “Web Data” file to see if that helps.
Step 1: Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog. Type %LocalAppData% in the Open field and press Enter.
Step 2: In the File Explorer window, navigate to the following folder.
Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default
Step 3: Select the Web Data file and click on the trash icon at the top to delete it.
Fix 2: Disable Browser Extensions
At times, third-party extensions running on Edge can interfere with the browser and prevent Edge from loading your profile correctly. To overrule this, disable all browser extensions and use Edge again.
In Microsoft Edge, type edge://extensions/ in the address bar at the top and press Enter. Then, use the switches to disable all the extensions.
Restart Microsoft Edge to see if the profile error message appears again. Later, you may enable the extensions one by one to identify the ones breaking the experience.
Fix 3: Create New User Profile
If Microsoft Edge continues to display the Profile error message, there may be a problem with your user profile. You can create a new user profile and start over. Here’s how.
Step 1: Open Microsoft Edge, click on your profile icon at the top right, and select Add profile.
Step 2: Click on Add.
Step 3: You can choose to sync your data straightaway or start without it.
Step 4: Click Confirm and start browsing.
Use Edge with your new profile and see if the Profile error message appears.
Fix 4: Repair Microsoft Edge
Over time, the mix of several profiles and extensions may mangle Microsoft Edge’s performance. You can repair Microsoft Edge from the Settings app on Windows. Here’s how.
Step 1: Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app and navigate to Apps > Installed apps.
Step 3: Scroll down or use the search bar at the top to locate Microsoft Edge. Click the three-dot menu icon next to it and select Modify.
Step 4: Click on Repair to allow Windows to reinstall Microsoft Edge without affecting your browser data. Since the repairing process requires Windows to download the browser again, you’ll need an active internet connection for this to work.
