Try Basic Fixes
- Disable battery and data saver mode: Enabling battery and data saver mode can affect WhatsApp’s ability to use the internet freely and result in poor video call quality. Hence, disable both the battery and data saver mode on your phone.
- Clean the camera lens: A dirty camera lens can affect video call quality on WhatsApp. Use a soft microfiber cloth to remove dirt, dust, and smudges on the rear or front cameras.
- Update WhatsApp: WhatsApp regularly releases updates for its mobile app to add new features, fix known issues, and improve overall app performance. Open the Play Store or App Store to update WhatsApp and see if that helps.
Fix 1: Disable “Use Less Data for Calls” in WhatsApp
Switching to a faster internet connection may not make a difference if you have enabled the Use less data for calls option in WhatsApp. While this feature helps reduce data usage, it also affects the video call quality in WhatsApp. Here’s how to disable it.
Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your phone. Tap the three-dot menu icon at the top right and select Settings. If you’re using WhatsApp on an iPhone, tap the Settings tab at the bottom right.
Step 2: Go to Storage and data > turn off the toggle for Use less data for calls.
Fix 2: Clear WhatsApp Cache (Android)
As you continue using WhatsApp on your Android, it creates temporary files to save frequently used data. While this data helps the app run smoothly, it can also cause problems if corrupted. Clearing the WhatsApp cache will help you remove any problematic temporary files and get the app working smoothly.
Step 1: Long-press on WhatsApp > tap the info icon from the menu.
Step 2: Go to Storage > tap Clear cache at the bottom.
