How to Leave a Slack Workspace on Desktop or Mobile

How to Leave a Slack Workspace

Note: The steps remain the same for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.

Step 1: Open Slack on your device and navigate to the workspace you want to leave from the left pane.

Note: You will see this section only if you are part of multiple workspaces. If not, skip this step and move to the next.

Step 2: Once selected, click on your profile picture at the top-right corner and select Profile from the menu.

Step 3: On the Profile screen, click the three-dot icon.

Step 4: Select Account settings from the drop-down. This will launch the Slack settings in your default browser.

Step 5: Review the information in the Deactivate account section, and once you are sure, click on Deactivate your account.

Step 6: Enter your password in the text field on the next screen and click Confirm Password.

Step 7: Click Yes, deactivate my account in the alert prompt to confirm.

Click 'Yes, deactivate my account.'

Once you have done this, you will see a message that you have successfully left the Slack workspace.

What Happens When You Leave a Slack Workspace

  • Messages and files: These remain in the workspace. If you want to remove anything you shared, delete it before leaving.
  • Your profile: It will stay visible for now. After leaving, contact the workspace owner to have it permanently deleted.
  • Profile deletion: To remove your profile information, directly contact the primary owner of your workspace or organization.

Yes, Slack notifies the members of a workspace when someone leaves. The notification will include the name of the user who left and the channel where they were last active.
