What Is SAR Value and Why You Should Check It

The SAR Value, also known as Specific Absorption Rate, tells you the amount of RF or radio frequency exposure your body can absorb from your phone. While you can use the SAR Value when checking for phone radiation levels, it is only relevant when talking about the maximum possible RF exposure to your body, as several outside factors can impact this result.

7 Ways to Check Mobile Radiation (SAR Value)

Now that we know what SAR Value is and why it needs to be checked, let us look at 7 ways to check the mobile radiation (SAR Value) on your Android and iPhone.

Method 1: Type USSD Code for SAR Value on Phone’s Dialer

One of the easiest and surefire ways of checking the RF exposure for your device is by using your device’s Phone app. Once opened, key in the USSD code for SAR Value and either press call or wait for your device to open the relevant information. Here’s how to do it.

On Android

Step 1: Open the Phone app and use the keypad to dial *#07#.

Step 2: Either press call or wait for your device to respond automatically. Scroll through this page for details.

On iPhone

Step 1: Open the Phone app and dial *#07#. Press the call icon. Go to RF Exposure and tap the SAR values link.

This will open the details regarding your iOS device’s RF exposure values in a separate web browser.

Method 2: Using the Manufacturer’s Website

Certain mobile manufacturers, like Apple, Samsung, Sony, etc., have RF exposure values listed on their websites. All you need to do is go to the relevant mobile manufacturer’s website, enter your device’s model details, and check the listed RF exposure information.

Method 3: Checking Your Phone’s Box

If you have your smartphone’s box, you’re in luck. Some mobile companies, like Samsung, Apple, ASUS, etc., print information about your device’s phone radiation levels on the box itself. Go through all the printed information and, usually below your device’s IMEI information, find the Mobile Radiation details.

Method 4: Using Your Device’s User Manual

Apart from having information about your phone’s hardware, functions, accessories, etc., your phone’s user manual can also contain relevant information regarding the RF exposure value. To check this, go through your device’s user manual and see if it has a section for RF exposure or SAR Value available.

Method 5: Using the FCC Website

Products certified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) are assigned an FCC ID for the same. It can usually be found in your phone’s user manual. This FCC ID can then be used to check your phone’s radiation levels through the FCC’s official website. Here’s how.

Step 1: Open the FCC’s website on any web browser and enter the first three or five characters of your phone’s FCC ID in the first box.

Step 2: Enter the remaining characters of the FCC ID in the second box and hit the search button.

Now, the FCC’s website will scan its database and give you the SAR Value for the product associated with the entered FCC ID.

Method 6: Using Your Device’s Settings

Besides using a USSD code to check the SAR Value, you can also use your phone’s Settings menu to get the relevant information regarding the SAR Value. Follow the below steps to do it.

On Android

Note: We’re using a Samsung Galaxy device for demonstration. The option to access the RF exposure for your Android device might differ.

Step 1: Open Settings and tap on About phone. Go to Legal information and tap on Safety information.

Scroll through the information mentioned and locate the RF exposure section. Then, check your phone’s radiation levels.

On iPhone

Step 1: Open Settings and tap on General. Tap on Legal & Regulatory.

Step 2: Tap on RF Exposure. Locate the SAR values link and tap on it.

This will open the page in a separate web browser, giving detailed information about your iOS device’s current radiation levels.

Method 7: Doing a Google Search

While a Google search might not yield the most accurate results, it can, under certain circumstances, help you figure out the SAR Value of, say, iPhone 14 or any other device model. Ensure you specifically mention the device details for accurate results. Follow the below steps to do it.

Step 1: Open Google on any web browser and, in the search bar, type your search query and press enter.

Step 2: Click the relevant link to check the SAR Value for that device model.

However, ensure to double-check this result with at least one official source, as Google search results can be outdated or inaccurate for certain devices.
