How to Switch From Samsung Messages to Google Messages on Different Phone
If you want to transfer your texts from a Samsung phone to a new device running the Messages app by Google, the process is slightly different. You’ll need to use a third-party app to export the SMS from your Samsung phone and then import them onto your new phone. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Download and open the SMS Backup & Restore app on your Samsung phone.
Step 2: Allow the necessary permissions to the app and tap the Set up a backup button.
Step 3: Enable the toggles next to Messages. Then, hit Next.
Step 4: Enable the toggle next to the cloud service — Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive — where you’d like to back up messages. Then, hit Next.
Step 5: Since you are just exporting and importing the backup once, disable the Schedule recurring backups option. Then, tap Back up now.
Step 6: On your new phone, install and open the SMS Backup & Restore app. Tap the menu icon in the top left corner and choose Restore.
Step 7: Select the account where you backed up your messages, and sign into that account.
Once you sign in, the app will restore all the messages and you should be able to view them in Google Messages.
