6 Ways to Take a Screenshot on Snapchat Without Them Knowing

Quick Tips
  • Open the relevant Snap and take a picture of the screen using another device. This will stop Snapchat from sending the screenshot notification.
  • If you couldn’t take a screenshot the first time, replay the Snap and try again. Snapchat+ users get 2 replays per Snap.
  • While you can take a secret screenshot of a Snap, we advise doing so judiciously as it reduces transparency and trust amongst users.

Method 1: Use Android Screen Recording to Secretly Screenshot Snaps or Stories

Most Android devices come with native screen recording options. So, open the relevant Snap or chat and, using your device’s screen recording app, take a screenshot of the page without notifying the user. Follow the below steps to do it.

Step 1: Open Snapchat and tap on the Chat icon. Tap on the relevant user.

Open Chat window

Step 2: Once the Chat window opens, use Quick Settings to turn on screen recording.

Step 3: Here, select Media and tap on Start recording. Once all the relevant Snaps have been captured, tap on the Stop icon.

Now, go to your device’s Gallery, play this video, and take as many screenshots as you want using your device’s native buttons.

Tip: You can anonymously take screenshots using third-party apps like Private Screenshots. However, it is always advised to exercise caution, as these apps might collect data or other user information.

Method 2: Using Google Assistant on Android

Note: You must quickly give the command once you play the Snap, or the Snap might close. This can also cause Snapchat to show ‘You took a screenshot’ in the chat window.

The Google Assistant app on Android is handy for taking screenshots. To do this, open Snapchat and go to the relevant chat. Once you play Snap, wake up Google Assistant and give it a command like ‘Take a screenshot’. Then, send the image to yourself on WhatsApp to retain a copy.

Method 3: Using Airplane Mode on iPhone

iOS users can go around the screenshot warning by using Airplane mode. To do this, first open Snapchat and load the Snap. Then, enable Airplane Mode to take a screenshot secretly. Here’s how to do it.

Note: There’s a high chance of failure when using this method on Android devices.

Step 1: Open the Snapchat iOS app and go to the relevant chat. Wait for the Snap to load.

Step 2: Then, use the Control Center to turn on Airplane Mode. Now, open the Snap and take the screenshot.

Step 3: Once you’ve done this, exit Snapchat and long-press the Snapchat app icon. Tap on Remove App.

Step 4: Tap on Delete App, followed by Delete to confirm.

This will delete the Snapchat app from your iOS device. You can now turn off the Airplane Mode. Additionally, re-install Snapchat and set it up again.

Method 4: Use the Screen Mirroring Feature on Android

While taking screenshots directly from your Android device’s screen will send the other user a notification, you can bypass this by mirroring the Android device to Windows or any other device. Then, use the screenshotting tools of the other device to screenshot Snaps on Snapchat. Here’s how.

Note: Ensure the other device can take screenshots even when screen mirroring is turned on and both devices are on the same network connection.

Step 1: On your Windows device, use the Windows + I key to open Settings. Here, go to System and click on Projecting to this PC.

Once the screen mirroring is successful, open the Snap and use the Windows + PrtSc key to screenshot the currently opened page without worrying about notifications.

Tip: Certain Windows apps, like AirParrot 3, let you mirror your iPhone’s screen onto Windows. Use this to take a screenshot on Windows 11. However, they might not always work so use them with caution.

Method 5: Secretly Screenshot Snaps on iPhone Using Mac

Just like mirroring the screen of your Android device onto your Windows PC, you can use the iPhone’s screen-sharing feature to project your iOS device’s screen onto your Mac. Then, take screenshots on Snapchat without worrying about notifications. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Connect your iPhone to your Mac using AirPlay or a cable. Ensure your iPhone and Mac are connected to the same Wi-Fi network when using AirPlay.

Step 2: Now, open Control Center on your iPhone and tap on the Screen Mirroring icon. Select your Mac as the Screen Mirroring device.

Step 3: Open Snapchat on your iPhone. Once the relevant chat or Snap is visible on your Mac’s display, press Command + Shift + 4 on the Mac keyboard to take a screenshot.
