Basic Fixes
- Check internet connection: Ensure that you have a strong internet connection on your Apple device. Connect to a 5GHz Wi-Fi network if you have a dual-band router.
- Check internal storage: If you wish to download and store multiple ebooks from the Apple Books app, you need to have enough storage space on your device.
- Force quit and relaunch app: This will give the app a fresh start on your Apple device.
- Update software to update Apple Books app: Depending on your device type, we suggest updating the software version.
Fix 1: Enable Downloads For New Purchases
If the iBooks app is not downloading your purchased book on your Apple device, you should check if automatic downloads are enabled for new purchases.
On iPhone and iPad
Open Settings > Books > enable Purchases from Other Devices and Automatic Downloads.
On Mac
Step 1: Open the Books app > click on Books at the top-right corner > select Settings.
Step 2: Select the General tab and then enable the option of Download new purchases automatically.
Fix 2: Enable iCloud Account Syncing
Speaking of your iCloud account, you can check whether the Books app is synced with your account. Also, you can check whether you are using the correct iCloud account on your device.
On iPhone and iPad
Open Settings > Profile name > iCloud > Show All > Enable syncing for the Books app.
On Mac
Open Settings > Profile name > Show More Apps > enable syncing for the Books app > click on Done.

Fix 3: Reset Network Settings
If nothing has worked so far, we suggest to reset the network settings on your Apple device. You can learn the steps to reset network settings on iPhone. The same steps apply to iPad users.
Reset Network Settings on Mac
There’s no specific option to reset network settings on your Mac. However, you can forget your current Wi-Fi network and join it again.
Open Settings > Wi-Fi > Details next to your current network name > Forget This Network > join the network again.
