4 Fixes for Outlook App Not Downloading Attachments

Basic Fixes

  • Check the device’s internal storage: You should have enough internal storage on your device so that the attachments can be saved.
  • Check the internet connection strength: Large attachments need good internet speeds to be downloaded quickly on your device.
  • Force quit and relaunch: This will give the app a fresh start on your device.
  • Update or reinstall the Outlook app: Install the latest update of the app on your phone. This will get it rid of bugs or glitches.

Fix 1: Check Outlook App Download Settings 

Enable the necessary permissions for the Outlook app for downloading your attachments. You need to enable Mobile Data access especially if you are outdoors.

On iPhone

Step 1: Open Settings > Outlook.

Step 2: Enable Mobile Data usage.

On Android

Step 1: Go to Outlook App Info.

Step 2: Tap on Mobile Data and Wi-Fi and then enable Unrestricted Data Usage.

Fix 2: Check App Storage Permissions

After internet usage, you need to enable storage permissions for the Outlook app to download and save your attachments.

On iPhone

Open Settings > Privacy and Security > Files and Folders > Enable permission for Outlook app.

On Android

Open Outlook App Info > Permissions > Photos and videos > Allow.

Fix 3: Disable Low Data Mode

Depending on your connection type, we suggest disabling Low Data Mode or Data Saver on your mobile. You might have turned on the feature to save data balance. But if your attachments have a larger file size, we suggest disabling the feature.

On iPhone

Step 1: Open the Settings app and then tap on Wi-Fi.

Step 2: Tap the Info icon next to your connected Wi-Fi network and then disable Low Data Mode.

Step 3: Go back to the Settings menu and then tap on Mobile Service.

Step 4: Tap on Mobile Data Options and then select Data Mode.

Step 5: Disable Low Data Mode.

On Android

Step 1: Open Settings and then tap on Network and Internet.

Step 2: Select Data Saver and then tap the toggle next to Use Data Saver to disable it.

Fix 4: Clear Outlook App Cache

Clear the app cache so that the outdated cache files are removed from your device. Then, sign in with your account and wait for your data to reload.

On iPhone

Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Outlook > Offload App.

On Android

Open Outlook App Info > Storage and cache > Clear cache.
