5 Ways to Fix “Something Went Wrong” Error in Microsoft Teams for Windows

Fix 1: Close the Teams App Using Task Manager and Reopen It

Sometimes, the Teams app may experience temporary issues that trigger the “Something went wrong” error on your PC. In most cases, you can fix such issues by restarting the app.

If restarting the Teams app does not work, try signing out of the Teams app and signing back in. To do so, click the signing out link on the “Something went wrong” error screen. Then, sign back into the Teams app and see if the error occurs again.

Credential Manager is where Windows keeps login information for all your apps and programs. If your credentials for the Teams app are incorrect or corrupted, the app may get stuck at login. In such cases, you may also see a message like “Trusted platform module has malfunctioned” appearing within Teams.

You can try clearing Teams’ credential data from the Credential Manager and see if that helps.

Step 1: Click the search icon on the taskbar, type credential manager in the search box, and press Enter.

After removing the credentials, restart the Teams app and sign in with your login credentials again.

Fix 4: Clear Teams Cache

Like most apps, Teams stores temporary files on your PC to ensure faster loading times and smoother performance. However, if this data becomes old or corrupt, it could disrupt app processes and lead to errors. You can try clearing the Teams app cache on your PC to see if that gets things moving again.

Step 1: Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box. Type %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams in the box and hit Enter.

Step 2: In the File Explorer window that opens, select all the files and folders and click the trash icon at the top to delete them.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 allow you to repair malfunctioning apps on your PC. You can try using this feature to fix any issues with the Teams app that may be causing the “Something went wrong” error message.

Step 1: Press the Windows key + S to open the search menu. Type Microsoft Teams in the search box and select App settings from the right pane.

  1. Its not my job to fix teams.
    Microsoft has done a shitty job. it crashes on 80% of the computers in the world. such a shame.
