Basic Fixes
- Force restart your iPhone: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button followed by Volume Down. Press and hold the Side button and release it when the Apple logo pops up.
- Update iOS: Open iPhone Settings, select General, and tap Software Update. Tap Install to update iOS.
Fix 1: Install the Latest App Updates
Updating all apps on your iPhone, including third-party messaging apps (e.g. WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, etc.) removes their possible malfunction, showing a wrong caller ID. Here’s how to update all apps at once from the App Store.
Step 1: Open the App Store and tap your profile icon at the top right to open account settings.
Step 2: Swipe down to refresh the page and tap Update All to install the latest app updates on your iPhone.
Fix 2: Check and Update Carrier Settings
Incorrect carrier settings on your iPhone often result in showing a wrong or no-caller ID. Head to iPhone settings to check and update it manually.
Step 1: Open iPhone settings, select General, and tap About.
Step 2: Wait a few seconds to receive the carrier settings update popup and tap Update.
Note: If you don’t see a carrier settings update popup, your iPhone is updated to the latest version.
Fix 3: Restore Contacts From the iCloud
If your device suddenly starts showing the wrong caller ID, incorrect contact details are the underlying culprit. Use iCloud to restore contacts on your iPhone.
Step 1: Visit iCloud in the Safari browser, sign in, and scroll down to select Data Recovery.
Step 2: Select Restore Contacts, pick your desired archive, and tap Restore.
Step 3: Select Restore when prompted to confirm it.
Fix 4: Reset iPhone Settings
If restoring your contacts doesn’t resolve the wrong caller ID issue, reset all settings on your iPhone to restore its normal functioning.
Step 1: Select General under iPhone Settings and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
Step 2: Tap Reset and select Reset All Settings. Enter your device passcode when prompted to confirm it.
Fix 5: Contact Carrier Support
If nothing works, I recommend contacting your carrier support team as their obsolete database can result in showing a wrong caller ID. Some carriers like AT&T and Verizon also permit updating your caller ID.
