- Check your Outlook account details: Open Mail > Mail at the top-left corner > Accounts > Exchange account > Check your account details.
- Check internet connection: A consistent internet can help you receive and download emails with large media files, presentations, and PDFs.

- Update the Mail app: Open Settings > General > Software Update > Install to update the Mail app.
Fix 1: Check Your Sorted Messages List
If you are using the correct email address, check the order in which your messages have been sorted in the Mail app. Your emails might be on the list but not in the order that you want them to be.
Step 1: Open the Mail App > Tap on View > Select Sort By.
Step 2: Select Newest Messages on Top.
We recommend selecting Newest Messages on Top.
Fix 2: Login Again to Microsoft Exchange Account
You can log in again to your Microsoft Exchange account. This will download all your messages again. This is helpful to check if the problem exists in viewing the body of the emails.
Step 1: Open the Mail App > Settings > Accounts.
Step 2: Select the Microsoft Exchange account and then click the Minus icon at the bottom-left corner to remove your account.
Step 3: Click the Plus icon in the bottom-left corner and then add your account again.
Fix 3: Use Safe Mode
Since we are dealing with a system app, you can try running Safe Mode on your Mac to check if any third-party apps are interfering with the functioning of the Mail app. This is an advanced solution, and we recommend using it only if you are still facing the issue.
On Macs with M-Series Chip
Step 1: Shut down your Mac.
Step 2: After your Mac shuts down, press and hold the Power Button till you see the two startup options – Macintosh HD and Options.
Step 3: Select Macintosh HD while holding the Shift key and then select Continue in Safe Mode.
On Macs with Intel Chip
Step 1: Restart your Mac.
Step 2: Press and hold the Shift key when your Mac restarts. Release the Shift key when you see the login window.
Step 3: Sign in and then check if the problem is solved.

I had this issue. Booting in safe mode worked for a short while. Think about this let me to think that a “statup” app was causing the issue. I remed Microsoft Defender (using CleanMyMac X) and the problem went away,
