Basic Fixes
- Check OneDrive storage: All your Word documents get saved on OneDrive. So, you need enough storage left on your OneDrive account to open the app and work on your files.
- Force quit and relaunch: This will give the app a fresh start on your iPhone or iPad.
- Update or reinstall Microsoft Word: Installing the latest version will improve the app’s stability on your device.
Fix 1: Allow Background App Refresh
Background app refresh ensures that you always see the updated version of the app while it is running in the background. So, you must ensure the same has been enabled for the Microsoft Word app on your iPhone or iPad. The steps remain the same for both platforms.
Open Settings > Word > enable Background App Refresh.
Fix 2: Reset Microsoft Word App
Once you reset the Word app on your iPhone or iPad, you will be logged out of your Microsoft account. This will also remove in-app settings and restore the app to its default state.
Open Settings > Word > Reset Word > enable Delete Sign-In Credentials and Reset Cloud Settings > force quit and relaunch Word > log in again to your account.
