3 Fixes for PlayStation 5 Captures Not Uploading to the PS App

Quick Tips
  • Ensure your PS5 is set to upload captures automatically.
  • Enabling the Console Sharing and Offline Play feature on your PS5 can also help resolve this issue.
  • You should avoid turning off your PS5 before the upload is complete; instead, you can put it in Rest Mode if you prefer.

Why Your PlayStation 5 Captures Won’t Show Up in the PS App?

While the PS app on your Android or iPhone allows you to access your PS5 game captures, you should be aware of some limitations.

  • PS5 can only upload game captures that have a maximum resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels and a duration of up to three minutes. If you want to share longer videos or record gameplay in stunning 4K resolution, you must use a capture card for your PlayStation 5.
  • Your game captures are stored on SIE’s cloud servers for only 14 days. Following that, you can’t access them in the PS app unless you reupload them.
  • PlayStation 5 will only upload content captured on the console after enabling game capture uploads.
  • The PS5 does not automatically upload trophy moments, and activity challenge captures, so you must upload them manually.

Fix 1: Ensure the Auto Upload Option Is Enabled

Before trying anything else, ensure you’ve enabled auto-uploads for game captures on your PS5. Otherwise, your game captures won’t appear on the PS app on your Android or iPhone.

Step 1: On your PS5, click the settings icon at the top right corner.

Open Settings on PlayStation 5

Step 2: Select the Captures and Broadcasts option.

Step 3: In the Captures tab, turn on the toggle for Auto-Upload.

Try capturing a screenshot or creating a screen recording and see if it appears in the PS5 app.

Fix 2: Enable Console Sharing and Offline Play

Several users on a Reddit thread have reported that enabling the Console Sharing and Offline Play feature got their PS5 game captures to upload almost instantly. You can also give it a go.

Step 1: On your PS5, open the Settings menu and head to Users and Accounts.

Uninstall and reinstall the PS app on your phone after this, and see if the issue persists.

Fix 3: Check the Internet Connection on the Console

If the internet connection on your PS5 is slow or unreliable, it may keep showing the “Can’t Upload” error. To avoid this, test your connection by running an internet speed test on your PS5.

Step 1: Open the PS5 Settings menu and head to the Network option.

Open Network Settings on PS5

Step 3: In the Connection Status tab, choose Test Internet Connection.

Wait for PS5 to return the internet test results. If there is a problem with your network connection, switch to a different connection and try again.
