Try Basic Fixes
- Restart your router: Temporary issues with your Wi-Fi or LAN connection can cause your PS4 or PS5 to repeatedly show the “Cannot communicate using SSL” error. In most cases, restarting the router can fix such issues.
- Check if the PSN or EA servers are down: Server-side issues can also give rise to SSL errors on your PS4 or PS5 during games. Hence, it’s a good idea to check the server status of both PlayStation Network and EA. If the servers are down, wait until they’re up and running again.
Fix 1: Link Your PSN and EA Accounts
Does your PlayStation display the “Cannot communicate using SSL” error when playing EA titles such as FIFA 23, Apex Legends, Madden, and others? This happens mainly due to connection issues between your PSN and EA accounts.
Several users on a Reddit thread reported fixing the error almost instantly by linking their PSN and EA accounts. You can also try it.
Step 1: Open a web browser on your phone or PC and visit the EA account sign-in page. Then, click on the PlayStation icon.
Step 2: Enter credentials for your PSN account and click on Next to link your accounts.
If the accounts are already linked, open your EA account, and head to My Account > Connections. Then, click on Unlink next to PlayStation Network.
After unlinking your PSN and EA accounts, link them again using the above-mentioned steps.
Fix 2: Switch to a Different Network Connection
Another reason you may encounter SSL errors on your PS4 or PS5 is if your network has not deployed an SSL protocol. If that’s the case, switching to a different network connection should help solve your problem. Here are the steps for doing the same.
Step 1: Go to your PlayStation’s home screen and select the Settings option at the top right corner.
Step 2: Select Network from the list.
Step 3: Head to Settings > Set Up Internet Connection.
Step 4: Locate the Wi-Fi network you want to use and select it. If asked to connect to it, enter the network password.
After switching to a different network connection, check if you encounter the “Cannot communicate using SSL” error again. If this solves your problem, the issue may be related to your previous network rather than your PlayStation. You may need to change your DNS server or contact your internet service provider for assistance.
