What Series or Model Is My Apple Watch: 4 Ways to Check

Quick Tips
  • Check the bottom of your Apple Watch to determine its series.
  • Identify the series from the Watch model number found in the Apple Watch app.
  • You can also check the Apple Watch product box, if you still have it.

Method 1. From the Back of the Apple Watch

The easiest way to know which Apple Watch you have is to look at its back. The back has all the important details engraved on it, such as the watch name (like Series 6, Series 9, etc.), size, material, and whether it’s GPS or cellular.

Check the number after the series number to know your Apple Watch’s size.

If your Apple Watch says Series 7000, it means you have a first-generation (Series 1 or Series 2) Apple Watch. 7000 refers to the grade of aluminum.

Tip: If you see a red color on the Digital Crown of your Apple Watch, it means your watch is cellular in addition to GPS.

Method 2. Look at the Apple Watch Box

Another easy way to identify your Apple Watch is from its box, provided you have it with you. The Watch series will be mentioned on the back of the box.

Method 3. Identify Your Watch Using Model Number

Each Apple Watch series has a unique model number. If the series name isn’t visible on the back of your Apple Watch, use the model number to identify it. First, find the model number, then refer to the model number table to identify your Apple Watch.

Find the Apple Watch Model Number

Step 1: Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Select General, followed by About.

Note: Your Apple Watch must have been paired to the iPhone to see its model number.

Step 3: Look for the Model Number text. You will see a number that begins with M. This isn’t your model number. Tap on this number to reveal the actual model number of your Apple Watch which should start with A.

For instance, it’s A2291 for my watch. Now, compare this number to the Apple Watch generations mentioned in the following table.
