Chrome lets you cast your browser tabs or the entire screen to all the nearby devices with Chromecast support. However, some user cannot cast their browser window because the Cast option is missing in Chrome.
You cannot find the Cast option in Chrome because it may have moved to a new location. Another reason could be unreachable devices, conflicting browser extensions, or something wrong with Chrome’s settings or core files. We will discuss six methods to fix this issue and let you use the Cast option again.
Where is the Cast Button in Chrome?
Google moved the Cast button in Chrome to the Save and Share option. So, it’s been a tad difficult to locate because users weren’t informed about the change.
If you updated Chrome and now cannot find the Cast button, here’s how to access it:
Step 1: Click on the three-dots button.
Step 2: Scroll down and hover on the Save and share option. Click on the Cast option.
Step 3: Right-click on the Cast icon in the toolbar. Select the Always show icon option to pin the icon to the toolbar.
How to Fix Cast Option Not Showing in Chrome
If you updated Chrome to the latest version and still cannot find the Cast option in the Settings menu or after right-clicking on a web page, use the following methods to get it back:
1. Restart the Device and Chrome Browser
First, you should restart both Chrome and the device you want to connect to. Use the Task Manager to close Chrome and all its sub-processes to prevent it from running in the background.
After that, restart your target device and then make sure to enable the Cast option in the Settings.
2. Check the Network Connection
Chromecast requires a robust internet connection to cast your tab or screen to another device. So, ensure your Wi-Fi is working properly and both devices (PC and others) are on the same Wi-Fi network.
You can also power cycle your router to clear its cache. To do so, unplug it from the socket and press the button to drain the residual power. Reconnect the power and ethernet cables, then reconnect your PC and device to the Wi-Fi network. Check if the Cast option appears or not.
3. Disable Active Browser Extensions
Extensions enable you to be more productive and let you customize Chrome to your liking. But sometimes, these extensions can conflict with the browser features, causing it to malfunction.
So, you must identify the problematic extension and disable or completely remove it from Chrome. Repeat the following steps:
Step 1: Launch Chrome.
Step 2: Click on the Extensions icon in the toolbar. Then click on the Manage Extensions option.
Step 3: Click on the toggle below an extension to disable it.
Step 4: Similarly, disable all the other extensions.
Step 5: Restart Chrome.
Step 6: Click on the three-dots button.
Step 7: Scroll down and hover on the Save and share option. Click on the Cast option.
If the Cast option appears after disabling all extensions, you must re-enable them individually to check which one interferes with Chrome’s features. After that, keep the problematic extension disabled in the browser.
4. Reset Chrome Settings
If you have made too many changes to your Chrome settings by mistake, you may need to reset the browser to its default settings. This action will remove all cookies, site data, customization, and content settings. As a result, you’ll need to set them up again from scratch.
Repeat the following steps to reset Chrome settings:
Step 1: Click on the three-dots button to open the context menu. Select the Settings option.
Step 2: Click on the Reset settings option.
Step 3: Now, click the ‘Restore settings to their original defaults’ option.
Step 4: Click on the Reset settings button.
Step 5: After the reset is complete, restart Chrome and check if you can use the Cast option now.
5. Reinstall Chrome
The last resort is to reinstall Chrome on your PC. The current installation of Chrome may be severely corrupt, causing the browser to not work properly. So, you must uninstall it and remove all the files and app data from Chrome.
Don’t worry because all your data is synced with your Gmail account and can be easily restored. After that, redownload and install Chrome from the official site. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Completely close Chrome using the Task Manager.
Step 2: Press the Windows key to open the Start menu. Type appwiz.cpl in the search bar and press Enter.
Step 3: The Programs and Features window will launch. Right-click on Chrome and select the Uninstall option.
Step 4: The User Account Control window will launch. Click on the Yes button.
Step 5: Follow the on-screen instructions to remove Chrome.
Step 6: Launch any other web browser and download Chrome from the official site.
Step 7: Run the setup file and wait for Chrome to download the files.
Step 8: Sign in to your Gmail account and wait for it to sync all the personal data.
Step 9: Click on the three-dots button.
Step 10: Launch the Cast option using the context menu or right-click on the webpage and select the Cast option.
Easily Cast Your Browser Tabs
The Cast option in Chrome may be missing on your browser as the developers moved it deep inside the context menu. But if you don’t find the option, connect both devices to the same network, disable the extensions, and reset or reinstall Chrome to fix the issue.
