Basic Fixes
- Connect devices to the same Wi-Fi network: Ensure your computer or smartphone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the cast device (e.g. Google Chromecast), to get the missing YouTube cast button.
- Reconnect the casting device: Reconnect the external cast device and keep it in close range. Also, ensure the cast device isn’t in use and set it to cast or pairing mode.
- Force close the YouTube app: Swipe up from your phone’s bottom screen and slide up the YouTube card to force close it. Reopen the YouTube app to check for the cast button.
- Update or reinstall the YouTube app: Open the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, search YouTube, and tap Update (if available). Alternatively, uninstall the app and install it afresh.
- Update your browser and phone: Ensure updating your browser to the latest version to fix the missing cast button on YouTube. Also, check your phone for updates and install them.
Fix 1: Force Stop YouTube and Reopen (Android)
The Cast button may go missing on YouTube due to existing app glitches. Force-stop the app manually to refresh and fix it.
Step 1: Long-tap the YouTube app icon on your Android phone and select App info.
Step 2: Tap Force stop, wait a few seconds, and reopen the YouTube app to check for the missing cast button.
Fix 2: Clear the YouTube Cache and App Data (Android)
A corrupt cache or obsolete app data can malfunction the YouTube app, creating issues in locating the Cast button on Android. Clear it manually and reopen the YouTube app to resolve the issue.
Open the YouTube App info on your Android phone (check the above steps), select Storage and cache, and tap Clear cache followed by Clear storage.
Fix 3: Offload the YouTube App (iOS)
Unlike Android, iOS doesn’t allow clearing the YouTube app cache manually. Instead, you can offload the app and reinstall it to restore normalcy.
Step 1: Select General under iPhone Settings and tap iPhone Storage.
Step 2: Tap YouTube and select Offload App.
Fix 4: Reset YouTube Site Settings (Desktop)
If you’re using YouTube on your PC in a browser (e.g. Google Chrome) and can’t find the cast option, resetting YouTube site settings should bring it back.
Step 1: Open YouTube, click the More icon to the left of the address bar, and select Site settings.
Step 2: Click Delete data and Reset permissions to reset the YouTube usage and permissions, respectively. Reopen your desired YouTube video to find the missing cast button.
