Common Fixes
- Restart device – Long-press the physical Power button and tap Reboot to restart Android. On the iPhone, press and hold either volume button + side button and drag the power-off slider to shut down. Further, press and hold the Power button to reboot.
- Disable Battery Saver or Low Power Mode – Open Android Settings > tap Battery > disable the Battery Saver mode. On the iPhone, head to Settings > Battery > toggle off Low Power Mode.
- Force quit and relaunch Facebook Messenger – Swipe down from the screen’s bottom to switch apps and slide up the Facebook Messenger card to force quit. Relaunch the app.
- Update Facebook Messenger app – Open Google Play Store or Apple App Store, search Facebook Messenger, and tap Update.
Fix 1: Disable and Re-Enable Picture-In-Picture
Toggling off and turning on Picture-in-Picture refreshes the feature, fixing existing glitches causing issues in running it.
On Android: Long-tap the Messenger icon > open App info > select Picture-in-picture > disable its toggle > now, re-enable it.
On iPhone: Open General under iPhone Settings > tap Picture in Picture > toggle off Start PiP Automatically > turn it back on.
Fix 2: Clear Facebook Messenger App Cache
Clearing the Facebook Messenger app cache removes all in-app preferences, login data, and accumulated cache, resolving issues in running the Picture-in-Picture mode.
On Android: Long-tap the Messenger icon to open App info, select Storage and cache, and tap Clear cache. Reopen the app and log in with your Facebook account credentials.
On iPhone: Long-tap the Messenger icon and select Remove App. Pick Delete App and reinstall it from the Apple App Store.
Fix 3: Reset All Device Settings
If nothing works, reset all device settings to fix Picture-in-Picture not working in the Facebook Messenger app.
On Android: Open System in Android settings, tap Reset options, and select Reset All settings.
On iPhone: Open General under iPhone Settings, select Transfer or Reset iPhone, tap Reset, and choose Reset All Settings. Enter your device passcode when prompted.
